Meet Pete Codling
Award-winning British artist Pete Codling continues to redefine contemporary figurative drawing and sculpture with a powerful fusion of historical narrative and modern sociopolitical commentary. With a career spanning over three decades, Codling’s work ranges from large-scale public art to intimate, intricately detailed drawings. His latest works push the boundaries of scale, storytelling, and the human experience. Born in Zambia in 1969 and raised in the UK by Anglo-Irish parents, Codling’s journey has taken him from Cornwall to London, Scotland, and ultimately Portsmouth, where he is now based. His education at Portsmouth College of Art & Design, East London Polytechnic, and Wimbledon School of Art laid the foundation for his distinctive practice, which interweaves sculpture, drawing, and site-specific art.
His public art commissions, funded by government bodies and national regeneration projects have transformed urban spaces across the UK, fostering community engagement and cultural significance.
During our recent conference in Portsmouth, we had the chance to visit Pete’s studio; a space brimming with creative energy and thought-provoking works. Our conversations and meetups sparked an exciting idea, and we extended an invitation for Pete to join us here in Malta.
During his visit, he’ll be exploring Malta’s rich heritage sites, engaging with local creatives, and connecting with the community.
And that’s not all…. stay tuned, as we’re putting together a unique workshop with Pete that you won’t want to miss.

Throughout the residency, Pete connected with a diverse range of local artists, writers, curators, and cultural entities, sparking meaningful dialogue around place-based art and shared heritage. His thoughtful engagement with Malta’s stories—both ancient and emerging—opened up collaborative opportunities that extend far beyond the studio walls.
Plans are now underway for Pete to return later this year, to deepen those creative relationships and begin laying the foundations for more ambitious work. This next phase will focus on expanding partnerships, developing site-responsive projects, and contributing to the growing cultural momentum leading into the Malta Biennale and wider regional programming.
As part of its mission, Bored Peach Club continues to champion international artistic exchange, with residencies like Pete’s acting as catalysts for long-term impact. His evolving presence in Malta highlights what’s possible when artists are given space to listen, connect, and create across borders.
