Meet Chelsea

Chelsea Muscat is a queer writer, director, cinematographer and photographer born and raised on the island of Gozo until she was nine. Leaving her sun-soaked childhood behind, Chelsea’s family embarked on a new chapter in the States, where she carved her own path, emerging as the first college graduate in her family, earning a Film BFA from SUNY Purchase. Her films have screened at a multitude of festivals and she explores themes of love, abandonment, and isolation, meticulously woven into the fabric of fiction, documentary, and experimental film, as well as her captivating photo series following her mother’s mental illness titled Story of My Mother. She explores the intricate dance of human relationships, dissecting the cycle of trauma – from mother-daughter dynamics to queer relationships. She will always think of Gozo as her first love, and is adamant about its protection and the need for Gozitan stories.
