Sara Sisun
Sara Sisun is a contemporary painter and researcher based in Colorado, USA. Working primarily in oil painting, her practice explores perception, art history, and the material language of images through still life and figurative motifs. Drawing on historical references alongside optical devices such as tinted mirrors, her work examines how light, surface, and time shape the act of looking. Through exhibitions, teaching, and residencies, she continues to investigate how historical painting traditions can be reactivated within contemporary visual culture.
Sara has been developing a new body of large-scale still life paintings. One of the highlights of her year was being included in the Figurativas exhibition in Barcelona, an important milestone in her practice.
During her residency in Malta, she is interested in expanding her still life language through subjects such as tools, antiques, found objects, and discarded materials. She is also exploring the use of mirrors as a way to study and paint light and landscape, responding directly to the visual atmosphere of Malta.
