Meet Vic Lee
Vic’s heritage is Maltese. His Dad.
His first trip to Malta? 7 months old. 1967.
‘I took after my English Mum in looks. Skinny, shy, with a mop of ginger hair and bottle bottom spectacles. The bullies loved me at school. The quiet kid. How things change!
Fast forward. 16 years in graphic design. Designer, then Creative director, heading projects for Coca Cola, Nescafé and Volvo.
Age 42. Switch.
Artist, illustrator, mapmaker, author, muralist and general ragamuffin. Painting commissions around the world for my endless clients. Nike, Mercedes, McLaren, J.P.Morgan, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Voyages. A range commissioned by The Tate. I have painted murals on supercars, bikes, cruise ships, in corporations, agencies, won multi awards for typography, illustration, storytelling and published a best selling book. And I spent a year painting a portrait a day. For fun!
The ginger kid done good.
What are your plans for this experience?
I am so excited about this residency in Gozo. Feels like coming to my second home, as an artist! I want to celebrate local life, culture and food of the island. To meet, laugh, chat with people. And hear tales, the weirder the better. I plan to paint portraits, write stories and ink a mural; bringing London to Gozo. Come say hi, pop by, chat and pop a Kinnie, Cisk or coffee. Is three weeks enough… We’ll see.
